On Monday, May 22, 2023, the Police and Citizens Relation Day was successfully held in Hellshire, Portmore. The event started on an optimistic note, and over 150 people attended, including members of the police force and community. The attendees were treated to a sumptuous feast of fried fish, fried chicken, jerk chicken, curry chicken, calloo, breadfruit, banana, rice and peas, white rice, and ice cream. It was a delightful spread that kept everyone satiated.
The event was hosted by Sergeant Lord, who served as the master of ceremonies. The Project Manager, Cleon Porter, gave an overview of the program, while the Commanding Officer, Senior Superintendent Christopher Phillips, brought greetings. The Custus Rotulorum, Icylin Golding, and Dr. Clara Marshall, Chairman of the Portmore Advisory Council, also gave greetings. The Portmore Minister Fraternal also greeted the attendees. The Sub-Officer in charge of Hellshire Police Station, Corporal Althea Nivens, gave remarks, and Constable Brittany Brown brought the vote of thanks.
The event was about more than just food and speeches. The kids were kept entertained with a Bounce-About and a Merry-Go-Round. Doctors and Nurses also provided health services by conducting blood pressure and diabetic tests and giving prescriptions. Moreover, a Justice of the Peace was also present to sign documents and take pictures of the attendees.
The event also had generous contributions from various organizations. NB Supper Store provided prizes for the attendees, while the Foundation for the Disabled Inc. gave away a blood pressure monitor to the public. The Gully Voice Charity and Hilo Supermarket also provided over 20 care packages for those in need. Furthermore, the Foundation for the Disabled Inc. also donated a Printer, Desktop computer, monitor, mouse, and keyboard to the Hellshire Police Station.
The attendees expressed their satisfaction with the event and hoped it would become an annual one. They commended the friendly and courteous behavior of the police and the delicious food served. They also appreciated the opportunity to learn more about the Foundation for the Disabled Inc. and the situation surrounding the elderly and disabled. For many, it was the first time an event of this kind had been held in Hellshire, Portmore, St. Catherine.
Overall, the Police and Citizens Relation Day was a resounding success. It provided a platform for the police and community to unite, build relationships, and foster goodwill. It is an event that will be remembered for years to come.
